The 1436A is the smallest enclosure in the Standard Depth (1436) half of the 1436/1438 Series: a Type 12 mild steel junction box with a lift-off screw cover. It is designed for use as an instrument enclosure, electrical junction box or terminal wiring enclosure where equipment needs a degree of protection from falling dirt, dust, oil and water.
The body measures 3.50 in H x 3.25 in W x 2.75 in D (89 x 83 x 70 mm) and is formed from 16 gauge steel with smooth, continuously welded seams and no knockouts, cutouts or holes. Welded brackets provide for mounting; the drawing shows an overall height of 4.50 in including brackets, mounting holes of Ø0.25 in on 4.00 x 2.38 in centres, and an overall depth of 2.91 in with the cover.
The 1436A cover is not hinged. It lifts off completely and is secured with captive, plated steel screws that fasten into threaded, sealed wells, sealing against a permanently secured oil resistant gasket. The cover measures 3.87 x 3.62 in and the door opening is 2.75 in wide. A bonding stud is provided on the cover and a grounding stud on the enclosure.
It is rated UL 508A Type 12 and 13 and CSA Type 12 and 13, and complies with NEMA Type 12 and 13 and IEC 60529 IP54. Cover and enclosure are phosphatized and finished in ANSI 61 gray recoatable powder coating. The shipping weight is 1.62 lbs (0.73 kg), packed in a box.
