Hammond 1182Q240P 1500 VA Potted-Center Toroid, 240V Single Secondary

The 1182Q240P is the potted-center version of the 1500 VA, single-secondary 240 V toroid in the 1182 series. It delivers 240V @ 6.3A from dual 117 V primaries and is aimed at builders who want the extra strength the series attributes to a potted center at the 1,500 VA size.

Per the drawing, the epoxy center is filled 0.50" from the top and drilled 13/32" for a 3/8 bolt. Supplied hardware is one 0.125" x 6.00" OD rubber washer and one 3/8-16 bolt 4.00" long with lock washer and hex nut. Primary and secondary leads are heavy #12 TEW, 8"-9" long and stripped 0.5" minimum; the single secondary is RED-BLU. Regulation is 2.30% (dimension reference M). Shipping weight is 23 lbs (10.43 kg); the drawing lists 24.75 lbs +/- 4%.

The toroid core gives the benefits the series is built around: low profile, light weight, cool running and high efficiency, and low stray magnetic flux leakage (low EMI). Materials are Class B (130 degree C), each unit is hi-pot tested at 4,000 VAC RMS primary to secondary, and the series holds UL recognition (UL 5085-1 / UL 5085-2, file #E207860) and CSA certification (C22.2 #66.1-6 / #66.2-6, file #209651). RoHS and REACH compliance are both listed for this part.

For installation, connect the two 117 V primaries in parallel for 117 VAC or in series for 234 VAC, 50/60 Hz. The series is designed to have all windings engaged, either series or parallel connected, or connected as an autotransformer, and a connection sheet is included with the transformer. Toroids can draw a high magnetizing current when first energized, so a slow-blow fuse, time-delayed circuit breaker or other soft-start circuit on the supply line is recommended.
