Hammond 1182Q6 80 VA Toroid Transformer, 12V CT or 6V Output

The 1182Q6 is an 80 VA toroid power transformer for low-voltage, high-current supplies. Its two 6 V secondaries (6.67 A each) can be wired in series for 12V C.T. @ 6.67A or in parallel for 6V @ 13.34A, making it a practical choice for designers building compact 6 V or 12 V center-tapped rails.

Primary leads are #20 TEW and secondary leads are a heavier #14 TEW to carry the output current; all leads come out 8"-9" and are stripped 0.5" minimum. Secondary windings are colour coded RED-BLU and GRY-YEL. Listed regulation is 9.70% (series table, dimension reference D). The open-center toroid ships with two 0.062" x 2.50" OD rubber washers, an 18GA x 2.375" OD steel mounting washer and a 10-24 bolt 2.00" long with lock washer and hex nut. Shipping weight is 2.25 lbs (1.02 kg).

On compliance, the 1182 family carries UL recognition to UL 5085-1 and UL 5085-2 under file #E207860 and CSA certification to C22.2 #66.1-6 and #66.2-6 under file #209651, and is self-declared as evaluated to applicable sections of IEC/EN61558-1 and IEC/EN61558-2-4. Windings use Class B (130 degree C) materials, primary-to-secondary insulation is hi-pot tested at 4,000 VAC RMS, and the part is listed as RoHS and REACH compliant.

The dual primary accepts 117 VAC (parallel connection) or 234 VAC (series connection) at 50/60 Hz, with a connection sheet included. Units are designed to run with every winding engaged, in series or parallel, or as an autotransformer. Plan the supply protection for toroidal inrush: the magnetizing current at energization is limited only by the primary's low DC resistance, so a slow-blow fuse, time-delayed breaker or soft-start is recommended.
