The CHKO884 is a square 8 x 8 x 4 in (203 x 203 x 102 mm) Type 1 mild steel junction box with a hinged door and quarter turn latch. A 7.00 in wide door opening gives more working width than the 6 in wide sizes, for general purpose indoor junction, pull or switch box installations.
The body is formed and spot welded from 16 gauge steel, and the formed steel cover closes with a slotted quarter turn latch. Easily removed knockouts are provided on all 4 sides, through holes in the back allow wall mounting, and a grounding location is embossed in the body. Enclosure and cover are finished in ANSI 61 gray powder coating. Hammond notes that the former butt hinge is being transitioned to a new integral hinge design starting late 2020.
