Hammond 270AX 42 VA Plate Transformer, 480V C.T. With 6.3V Filament

The 270AX is a 42 VA high voltage (plate) and filament transformer for 115 VAC, 60 Hz service. It provides a 480V center-tapped high voltage secondary rated at 58 mA plus one 6.3V filament winding rated at 2.5A, in one of the smallest enclosed cases in the 200 Series.

Electrically, the 270AX is rated 42 VA with a 115 VAC, 60 Hz primary, a high voltage secondary rated 480V C.T. @ 58mA (RMS), and a single filament winding of 6.3V @ 2.5A. As with every 200 Series unit, it can be run full wave bridge or full wave C.T. Compared with the 270X, which shares its 480V C.T. rating, the 270AX drops the 5V winding and offers a single 6.3V @ 2.5A filament with 58 mA available on the high voltage side.

The case is an enclosed, 4 hole, chassis mount design in the vertical (X) mounting style, with minimum 6 in long leads. Listed dimensions are A 2.19 in (56 mm), B 2.50 in (64 mm), C 2.63 in (67 mm), D 1.75 in (44 mm), F 1.44 in (37 mm), with 0.19 in (5 mm) x 0.25 in (6 mm) mounting slots. Shipping weight is 1.7 lbs (0.77 kg).

For the primary, the 200 Series wiring notes describe two choices: use the white and gray wires and tape the black wire for 115 VAC input, or use the white and black wires and tape the gray wire where roughly 125V line voltage is producing too high a secondary voltage. Never connect power to both the gray and black wires at once. Insulation is Class A (105 degrees C), units are hi-pot tested at 2,000V RMS, the design is CSA certified (209651), and the part is RoHS and REACH compliant.
