Hammond 1599RFIEBK 170 x 85 mm EMI/RFI Shielded Handheld Enclosure

The 1599RFIEBK is the E-size member of the 1599RFI shielded handheld family, measuring 6.7 x 3.35 x 1.33 in (170 x 85 x 34 mm). It is aimed at engineers who need a handheld instrument housing with built-in EMI/RFI shielding and room for a mid-size board.

The enclosure is molded from conductive plastic - stainless steel fibers compounded with flame retardant ABS, rated UL94 V-0. Lap joint construction protects against dust accumulation and splashing water, and the design meets IP54. The extra deep top and ultra shallow base aid assembly, while Phillips machine screws threaded into tapped integral brass bushings hold the lid for repeated service access.

The series table lists 170 x 86 x 35 mm, and the drawing shows an assembly of 170.00 x 85.50 x 34.75 mm. The maximum PC board for the 1599RFIEBK is 72 x 162.5 mm (board not supplied). Cover screws are M3 - 0.5 x 20 mm nickel plated machine screws, with 1591MS100 listed as the extra assembly screws; recommended torque is 42-57 ozf.in (30-40 cN.m).

The conductive material is not an insulator and must be treated like a metal enclosure; significant current flow will heat it and produce smoke. It is brittle, acting like phenolic, and not for high impact use. The assembly includes box, lid and 4 cover screws, shrink wrapped, and is RoHS and REACH compliant.
