Hammond 1599RFIBBK 130 x 65 mm EMI/RFI Shielded Handheld Enclosure

The 1599RFIBBK is the smallest EMI/RFI shielded handheld enclosure in the 1599RFI series, sized 130 x 65 x 25 mm (5.12 x 2.56 x 0.97 in). It is intended for designers of compact handheld electronics that need shielding against electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference without adding a separate metal can or coating.

Shielding comes from the material itself: the box and lid are molded from a compound of stainless steel fibers and flame retardant ABS, which carries a UL flammability rating of 94V-0. Lap joint construction protects against dust accumulation and splashing water, and the enclosure is designed to meet IP54. The lid is secured with Phillips machine screws threaded into tapped integral brass bushings, suited to repeated assembly and disassembly.

Important handling notes apply: the conductive material is brittle, acts like phenolic and is not for high impact use. Conductive plastic is not an insulator, so the 1599RFIBBK must be treated like a metal enclosure, and significant current flow will cause the plastic to heat and produce smoke.

The purchased assembly includes box, lid and 4 cover screws, with a recommended torque of 42-57 ozf.in (30-40 cN.m). It ships shrink wrapped and is RoHS and REACH compliant.
