The 1436K is a 9.50 x 8.50 in Type 12 mild steel junction box in the Standard Depth (1436) group of the 1436/1438 Series. The wider body gives more mounting width for instrument enclosures, electrical junction boxes and terminal wiring enclosures that need a degree of protection from falling dirt, dust, oil and water.
It measures 9.50 in H x 8.50 in W x 3.00 in D (241 x 216 x 76 mm) and is formed from 16 gauge steel with smooth, continuously welded seams and no knockouts, cutouts or holes. Welded mounting brackets give an overall height of 10.50 in, with Ø0.25 in holes spaced 10.00 in vertically and 7.63 in horizontally. Overall depth including the cover is 3.16 in.
The 9.87 x 8.87 in lift-off cover is supported on internal hinges and secured with captive, plated steel screws threading into sealed wells, sealing on a permanently secured oil resistant gasket. The door opening is 9.00 in high by 8.00 in wide. A bonding stud on the cover and a grounding stud on the enclosure simplify grounding.
The 1436K is rated UL 508A Type 12 and 13 and CSA Type 12 and 13, and complies with NEMA Type 12 and 13 and IEC 60529 IP54. Its phosphatized cover and body are finished in recoatable ANSI 61 gray powder coating, and the shipping weight is 7 lbs (3.18 kg) in a box.
