Hammond 1182W12 1000 VA Toroid Transformer, 12V @ 83.4A Dual Secondary

The 1182W12 is a 1000 VA toroidal power transformer from the 1182 Series for equipment designers who need a high-current 12 V or 24 V centre-tapped AC source. It runs from a dual 117/234 VAC primary at 50/60 Hz and carries two 12 V secondaries rated 41.70 A each.

With the secondaries in series the output is 24V C.T. @ 41.7A; in parallel it is 12V @ 83.4A. The series table lists voltage regulation at 2.20%. The units are designed to have all windings engaged, either series or parallel connected, or connected as an autotransformer, and a connection sheet is included with the transformer.

This is an open-center toroid (dimension reference L-1). It is supplied with two 0.093" T x 4.75" OD rubber washers, one 16GA x 4.30" OD steel mounting washer, and one 3/8-16 bolt 3.50" long with a lock washer and 3/8-16 hex nut. Primary leads are #16 TEW and secondary leads are #10 TEW, all brought out 8"-9" and stripped 0.5" minimum. The drawing gives a weight of 16.29 lbs +/- 4%, with a shipping weight of 16.5 lbs (7.48 kg).

The toroid core shape provides a low profile, lightweight, cool running, high efficiency transformer with low stray magnetic flux leakage (low EMI). It uses Class B (130 degree C) materials and is hi-pot tested at 4000V, 60Hz for 1 second primary to secondary and 600V primary to primary and secondary to secondary. The 1182 Series is UL recognized (file #E207860) and CSA certified (file #209651); the 1182W12 is RoHS and REACH compliant. Because toroids draw high inrush current on switch-on, use a slow-blow fuse, time delayed breaker or soft start circuitry.
