Hammond 1182V40P 1500 VA Potted Toroid Transformer, 40V Dual Secondary

The 1182V40P is a 1500 VA toroidal power transformer from the 1182 Series, built for OEM engineers and equipment builders who need a high-current 40 V or 80 V centre-tapped AC supply from a 117 V or 234 V line. It has a dual 117/234 VAC primary for 50/60 Hz operation and two 40 V secondaries rated 18.80 A each.

Connect the secondaries in series for 80V C.T. @ 18.8A, or in parallel for 40V @ 37.5A. Voltage regulation is listed at 3.70% in the series table. The units are designed to have all windings engaged, either series or parallel connected, or connected as an autotransformer, and a connection sheet is included with the transformer.

As a 1,500 VA size, the 1182V40P has a potted center for extra strength: the epoxy center is filled 0.50" from the top and drilled 13/32" for a 3/8 bolt. It is supplied with one 0.125" T x 6.00" OD rubber washer and one 3/8-16 bolt 4.00" long with a lock washer and 3/8-16 hex nut. Primary leads are #12 TEW and secondary leads are #10 TEW, all brought out 8"-9" and stripped 0.5" minimum. The drawing lists a weight of 24.75 lbs +/- 4%; shipping weight is 23 lbs (10.43 kg).

The toroid core gives a low profile, lightweight, cool running, high efficiency design with low stray magnetic flux leakage (low EMI). It is manufactured using Class B (130 degree C) materials and hi-pot tested at 4000V, 60Hz for 1 second primary to secondary, with 600V tests primary to primary and secondary to secondary. The series is UL recognized (file #E207860) and CSA certified (file #209651), and the part is RoHS and REACH compliant.

Toroidal transformers draw high magnetizing current when first energized, so consider a slow-blow fuse, time delayed circuit breaker or other soft start circuitry on the supply line.
