Hammond 1182U30 1000 VA Toroidal Transformer, 60V CT or 30V Output

The 1182U30 is a 1000 VA toroidal power transformer with two 30 V secondaries. Connected in series it is rated 60V C.T. @ 16.7A; in parallel, 30V @ 33.3A. It is the highest-current 30 V model in the 1182 series table, for 30 V or 60 V center-tapped supplies on 117 VAC or 234 VAC mains.

The drawing lists each secondary as 30V @ 16.70 A, with #16 TEW primary leads and #10 TEW secondary leads 8"-9" long and stripped 0.5" minimum. Regulation is 2.20% (dimension reference L). The open-center toroid is supplied with two 0.093" x 4.75" OD rubber washers, one 16GA x 4.30" OD steel mounting washer and a 3/8-16 bolt 3.50" long with lock washer and hex nut. Shipping weight is 16.5 lbs (7.48 kg).

Every transformer in the 1182 series is manufactured using Class B (130 degree C) materials and hi-pot tested at 4,000 VAC RMS between primary and secondary. The series is UL recognized to UL 5085-1 and UL 5085-2 (UL file #E207860), CSA certified to C22.2 #66.1-6 and C22.2 #66.2-6 (CSA file #209651), and self-declared as evaluated to applicable sections of IEC/EN61558-1 and IEC/EN61558-2-4. This part is listed as RoHS and REACH compliant.

Wiring is straightforward: the primaries go in parallel for 117 VAC operation or in series for 234 VAC, at 50 or 60 Hz, and a connection sheet ships with the unit. All windings should be engaged (series or parallel) or the unit connected as an autotransformer. Because of the toroid's magnetic properties, inrush at switch-on can sometimes blow a fuse or trip a breaker, although the overload rarely lasts longer than half a cycle; the manufacturer advises a slow-blow fuse, time-delay breaker or soft-start circuitry.
