Hammond 1182T60P 1500 VA Potted-Center Toroid, 120V CT or 60V Output

The 1182T60P is the potted-center 1500 VA, 60 V toroid in the 1182 series. It provides 120V C.T. @ 12.5A with its secondaries in series or 60V @ 25A in parallel, from dual 117 V primaries, and is intended for high-power builds that want the extra strength the series attributes to a potted center at 1,500 VA.

The drawing describes an epoxy center filled 0.50" from the top and drilled 13/32" for a 3/8 bolt, with one 0.125" x 6.00" OD rubber washer and one 3/8-16 bolt 4.00" long with lock washer and hex nut supplied. Primary leads are #12 TEW and secondary leads #10 TEW, 8"-9" long and stripped 0.5" minimum. The series table lists 3.00% regulation and dimension reference M. Shipping weight is 23 lbs (10.43 kg); the drawing lists 24.75 lbs +/- 4%.

Every transformer in the 1182 series is manufactured using Class B (130 degree C) materials and hi-pot tested at 4,000 VAC RMS between primary and secondary. The series is UL recognized to UL 5085-1 and UL 5085-2 (UL file #E207860), CSA certified to C22.2 #66.1-6 and C22.2 #66.2-6 (CSA file #209651), and self-declared as evaluated to applicable sections of IEC/EN61558-1 and IEC/EN61558-2-4. This part is listed as RoHS and REACH compliant.

Wiring is straightforward: the primaries go in parallel for 117 VAC operation or in series for 234 VAC, at 50 or 60 Hz, and a connection sheet ships with the unit. All windings should be engaged (series or parallel) or the unit connected as an autotransformer. Because of the toroid's magnetic properties, inrush at switch-on can sometimes blow a fuse or trip a breaker, although the overload rarely lasts longer than half a cycle; the manufacturer advises a slow-blow fuse, time-delay breaker or soft-start circuitry.
