Hammond 1598BBSGYPBK 179x155x35mm Gray ABS Case, Black Plastic End Panels

The 1598BBSGYPBK is a light gray general purpose ABS instrument case from the 1598 Series, supplied with black plastic end panels. It is a desktop electronic instrument enclosure ideally suited for mounting printed circuit boards, and the 1598BB size is a low-profile case with 30 mm of inner height and a board footprint close to 141 x 168 mm. The ordering table lists it at 7.05 in (179 mm) long, 6.10 in (155 mm) wide and 1.38 in (35 mm) deep.

This version is molded from general purpose ABS plastic that is not flame retardant (flame rating UL94 HB). Its halves are secured with #4 x 5/8" (15.9 mm) self tapping screws threaded into plastic standoffs, so it is not recommended for repeated assembly and disassembly. Replacement black plastic end panels are sold as a pair under 1598PLBBBK, while 1598PLBB-AL is the matching aluminum pair. The case is designed to meet IP54.

Inside, two sets of vertical 1.5 mm (0.062") PC board guides are molded into the front and rear of the case halves, and integral horizontal PC card mounts sit on Eurocard centers. The maximum board size is 141.05 mm [5.553 in] x 167.80 mm [6.606 in], aligned on bosses with 4 mounting holes of Ø3.51 mm [.138 in]. The molded standoffs take #6 x 1/4" (6.4 mm) screws, which are not included; order 1598ATS100 (100-pack). Inner height is 30.00 mm [1.181 in].

The purchased assembly includes the top and bottom cover, front and rear end panels (black plastic on this version), 2 cover screws and 4 rubber feet. A tilt bail kit, 1598TH1, is listed for this size. Enclosures can be factory modified with milling, drilling and printing, and STEP or IGES solid models are available from the factory.
