Hammond 1598BSGY 134x135x51mm General Purpose Gray ABS Instrument Case

The 1598BSGY is a light gray general purpose ABS instrument case from the 1598 Series, supplied with brushed aluminum front and rear panels. It is a desktop electronic instrument enclosure ideally suited for mounting printed circuit boards, and the 1598B size is a near-square case that takes a board of roughly 122 mm per side. The ordering table lists it at 5.28 in (134 mm) long, 5.31 in (135 mm) wide and 2.01 in (51 mm) deep.

This version is molded from general purpose ABS plastic that is not flame retardant (flame rating UL94 HB). Its halves are secured with #4 x 5/8" (15.9 mm) self tapping screws threaded into plastic standoffs, so it is not recommended for repeated assembly and disassembly. The aluminum panels are 5052-H32 alloy and ship with protective paper on one side; the replacement pair is 1598PLB-AL, or 1598PLBBK for black plastic. The case is designed to meet IP54.

Inside, two sets of vertical 1.5 mm (0.062") PC board guides are molded into the front and rear of the case halves, and integral horizontal PC card mounts sit on Eurocard centers. The maximum board size is 122.04 mm [4.805 in] x 122.30 mm [4.815 in], aligned on bosses with 6 mounting holes of Ø3.51 mm [.138 in]. The molded standoffs take #6 x 1/4" (6.4 mm) screws, which are not included; order 1598ATS100 (100-pack). Inner height is 45.50 mm [1.791 in].

The purchased assembly includes the top and bottom cover, front and rear end panels (aluminum), 2 cover screws and 4 rubber feet. Enclosures can be factory modified with milling, drilling and printing, and STEP or IGES solid models are available from the factory.
