Hammond 1598ASGY 157x93x35 mm Gray General Purpose ABS Case

The 1598ASGY is the general purpose version of the 1598 series ABS clam shell instrument enclosure, in light grey. It is a desktop electronic instrument case ideally suited for mounting printed circuit boards. It is the smallest footprint in the series table at 157 x 93 x 35 mm.

It is molded from general purpose ABS (not flame retardant) with a UL94 HB rating. The halves are secured with self tapping screws threaded into plastic standoffs, which the manufacturer does not recommend for repeated assembly and disassembly (replacement screws: 1591TS100, #4 x 5/8" / 15.9 mm). The enclosure is designed to meet IP54. It comes with brushed aluminum end panels; the purchased assembly includes top and bottom covers, front and end aluminum panels (alloy 5052-H32, SPV coating on one side), 2 cover screws and 4 rubber feet. Black plastic replacement panels are 1598PLABK and aluminum panels 1598PLA-AL.

The series table lists 6.18 in (157 mm) long, 3.66 in (93 mm) wide and 1.38 in (35 mm) deep; the part page lists 6.1 in x 3.6 in x 1.4 in (155 mm x 91 mm x 36 mm), and the drawing shows 156.50 mm [6.161 in] x 93.40 mm [3.677 in] x 35.00 mm [1.378 in] overall. Inner box dimensions are 145.70 mm [5.736 in] x 84.38 mm [3.322 in] x 29.50 mm [1.161 in], and the maximum P.C. board size is 144.60 mm [5.693 in] x 80.67 mm [3.176 in]. Shipping weight is 0.34 lbs (0.15 kg).

Two sets of vertical 1.5 mm (0.062") PC board guides are molded into the front and rear of the case halves, with integral horizontal PC card mounts on Eurocard centers and 4 PCB bosses of 3.51 mm diameter. The standoffs require #6 x 1/4" (6.4 mm) screws, not included (order 1598ATS100).

The 1598ASGY is RoHS and REACH compliant and ships shrink wrapped. Factory modification is available and solid models come in STEP or IGES.
