Hammond 1594RFIBBK 81 x 56 mm Conductive Plastic EMI/RFI Enclosure

The 1594RFIBBK is a rectangular, thick-wall black enclosure from the 1594RFI series, molded from conductive plastic and designed for EMI/RFI shielding applications. At 81 mm long it gives a longer board space than the square 1594RFIA size while keeping the same 56 mm width, which suits designers packaging a small shielded circuit, sensor interface or signal module.

Instead of a painted-on coating, the plastic itself is a conductive compound of stainless steel fibers and flame retardant ABS, with a UL flammability rating of 94V-0. The series quotes an average wall thickness of 0.13 in (3.3 mm); the part drawing shows 3.10 mm. The exterior is black with a matte textured finish. Note that the material is brittle, similar to phenolic, and is not for high impact use.

Per the ordering table, the 1594RFIBBK measures 3.19 in (81 mm) long, 2.20 in (56 mm) wide and 1.57 in (40 mm) deep; the part page lists a nominal 3.2 x 2.2 x 1.1 in (81 x 56 x 28 mm). The drawing gives a narrowest inside dimension of 46.67 mm and an inner box height of 34.30 mm. Shipping weight is 0.18 lbs (0.08 kg).

Four M3-0.5 x 18mm long Philips machine screws thread into integral brass bushings to hold the countersunk lid, and the enclosure is designed to meet IP54. Order 1594MS100 for a pack of 100 replacement screws. The conductive plastic is not an insulator: handle the design as you would a metal enclosure and keep current from shorting to or through the case. The part is REACH and RoHS compliant.
