Hammond 1590K 125x125x79mm Diecast Aluminum Enclosure, IP54

The 1590K is a square diecast aluminum instrument enclosure measuring 4.92 in x 4.92 in x 3.11 in (125 mm x 125 mm x 79 mm). It is the tallest of the 125 mm square sizes in the 1590 Series and suits OEM engineers, hobby builders and integrators who need a rugged metal box with plenty of internal height for electronics, terminal blocks or taller components.

Box and lid are cast from aluminum alloy, which is tough yet easy to machine for connectors, switches and cable glands. This unpainted version is vibra finished, leaving a smooth surface with no sharp edges. A lap joint where the lid meets the box provides protection against dust and splashing water, and the standard version is designed to meet IP54.

Inside, the drawing gives 118.10 mm [4.650 in] length and width with 73.50 mm [2.894 in] of inside height, and the manufacturer lists a maximum P.C. board size of 116.1 mm x 116.1 mm. Side walls have a low draft angle of 2° or less, which makes board mounting easier. The 1590K has no mounting flanges; the 1590KF is the same size with a welded flanged bottom plate.

The purchased assembly includes the box, lid and 4 cover screws threaded into factory-tapped 6-32 UNC holes. Recommended screw torque is 50-55 cN.m [71-78 ozf.in]. To upgrade to IP65, add the 1590KGASKET silicone gasket kit and watertight stainless screws, then torque lid screws to 25-30 cN.m [36-43 ozf.in]; a ready-made water-tight version is also offered as 1590WK. The enclosure is RoHS and REACH compliant and ships shrink wrapped at 0.95 lbs (0.43 kg).
