Hammond 1550J 275×175×62 mm Natural Diecast Aluminum Enclosure

The 1550J is a natural-finish diecast aluminum enclosure from the 1550 Series, with a 275 x 175 mm footprint and a 62 mm body height, the longest footprint in the 1550 ordering table. The part page lists its size as 10.83 in x 6.89 in x 2.46 in (275 mm x 175 mm x 62 mm). It suits electronics designers, OEM engineers and hobby builders who need a rugged, easy-to-machine metal box for instruments, control circuits or stomp-box style projects.

Per the drawing the inside measures 266.91 mm [10.51 in] long by 166.91 mm [6.57 in] wide with 61.60 mm [2.43 in] of height, a long flat cavity for wide boards or several modules side by side. The series ordering table lists this size as 10.83 in (275 mm) long, 6.89 in (175 mm) wide and 2.64 in (67 mm) high, a figure that includes the 4 mm (0.16 in) lid; the drawing shows 66.60 mm [2.62 in] overall with the lid fitted. Shipping weight is 2.27 lbs (1.03 kg).

Die-cast aluminum alloy is tough yet easy to machine, and the unpainted body is vibra finished for a smooth surface with no sharp edges. Lap joint construction protects against dust and splashing water. Four M3.5 x 0.6 x 12 mm stainless steel Philips head machine screws hold the lid in factory tapped holes. Smooth, rib-free internal walls make fitting connectors straightforward, and a low side wall draft angle (2° less) helps with PC board mounting.

As supplied, without a gasket, the 1550J is rated IP54. Adding the 1550JEGASKET EVA foam gasket kit brings it to IP66, and the 1550JSGASKET silicone kit is the IP67 upgrade (with properly installed gasket and lid screws torqued at 55 cN.m). The same size in black powder coat is the 1550JBK, and the version shipped with an IP66 gasket is the 1550WJ. It is RoHS and REACH compliant and ships in shrink wrap.
