Hammond 1550JBK 275×175×62 mm Black Diecast Aluminum Enclosure

The 1550JBK is a black diecast aluminum enclosure from the 1550 Series, with a 275 x 175 mm footprint and a 62 mm body height, the longest footprint in the 1550 ordering table. Its listed size is 10.83 in x 6.89 in x 2.46 in (275 mm x 175 mm x 62 mm). It is built for electronics designers, OEM engineers and builders who want a rugged, machinable metal case for instruments, control circuits or effects pedals, finished in black.

Per the drawing the inside measures 266.91 mm [10.51 in] long by 166.91 mm [6.57 in] wide with 61.60 mm [2.43 in] of height, a long flat cavity for wide boards or several modules side by side. The series ordering table lists this size as 10.83 in (275 mm) long, 6.89 in (175 mm) wide and 2.64 in (67 mm) high, a figure that includes the 4 mm (0.16 in) lid; the drawing shows 66.60 mm [2.62 in] overall with the lid fitted. Shipping weight is 2.36 lbs (1.07 kg).

The body is die-cast aluminum alloy painted with tough satin black polyester powder paint for a lasting finish, even after machining, and black screws are included to keep the assembled look consistent. Lap joint construction guards against dust and splashing water, and four M3.5 x 0.6 x 12 mm stainless steel Philips head machine screws secure the lid into factory tapped holes. There are no internal ribs, so connectors install without interference or extra milling, and the low side wall draft angle (2° less) eases PC board mounting.

As supplied, without a gasket, the 1550JBK is rated IP54. Adding the 1550JEGASKET EVA foam gasket kit brings it to IP66, and the 1550JSGASKET silicone kit is the IP67 upgrade (with properly installed gasket and lid screws torqued at 55 cN.m). The same size in natural aluminum is the 1550J, and the version shipped with an IP66 gasket is the 1550WJBK. It is RoHS and REACH compliant and ships in shrink wrap.
