Hammond 1550HBK 222×146×101 mm Black Diecast Aluminum Enclosure

The 1550HBK is a black diecast aluminum enclosure from the 1550 Series, with a 222 x 146 mm footprint with a 101 mm body height, the deep version of the 222 x 146 mm size (the 1550G is the 51 mm version). Its listed size is 8.74 in x 5.75 in x 3.98 in (222 mm x 146 mm x 101 mm). It is built for electronics designers, OEM engineers and builders who want a rugged, machinable metal case for instruments, control circuits or effects pedals, finished in black.

The drawing gives an inside cavity of 212.84 x 136.84 mm [8.38 x 5.39 in] with 101.10 mm [3.98 in] of height, enough depth for tall components or stacked boards within a 222 x 146 mm footprint. The series ordering table lists this size as 8.74 in (222 mm) long, 5.75 in (146 mm) wide and 4.13 in (105 mm) high, a figure that includes the 4 mm (0.16 in) lid; the drawing shows 105.10 mm [4.14 in] overall with the lid fitted. Shipping weight is 1.82 lbs (0.83 kg).

The body is die-cast aluminum alloy painted with tough satin black polyester powder paint for a lasting finish, even after machining, and black screws are included to keep the assembled look consistent. Lap joint construction guards against dust and splashing water, and four M3.5 x 0.6 x 12 mm stainless steel Philips head machine screws secure the lid into factory tapped holes. There are no internal ribs, so connectors install without interference or extra milling, and the low side wall draft angle (2° less) eases PC board mounting.

As supplied, without a gasket, the 1550HBK is rated IP54. Adding the 1550GEGASKET EVA foam gasket kit brings it to IP66, and the 1550GSGASKET silicone kit is the IP67 upgrade (with properly installed gasket and lid screws torqued at 55 cN.m). The same size in natural aluminum is the 1550H, and the version shipped with an IP66 gasket is the 1550WHBK. It is RoHS and REACH compliant and ships in shrink wrap.
