Hammond 1441-12BK3 7x5x2 in Satin Black Steel Chassis, 20 Gauge

The 1441-12BK3 is a 7 in x 5 in x 2 in (178 mm x 127 mm x 51 mm) steel chassis finished in satin black powder paint. It is the satin black version of this size; the same chassis is offered in ASA 61 grey as 1441-12, and with real walnut sides as 1441-12BK3CWW. It suits electronics hobbyists, audio and tube-equipment builders, and OEM engineers who need an open-bottom metal base for mounting components.

Construction is spot welded, heavy-duty 20 gauge steel; the drawing specifies 0.036 in steel for both the chassis and the optional bottom plate. The inner box measures 175.97 mm [6.93 in] long, 125.17 mm [4.93 in] wide and 48.97 mm [1.93 in] high, which is the space available for transformers, boards and wiring. Shipping weight is 0.98 lbs (0.44 kg).

At 7 in wide and 5 in deep it is one of the more compact footprints in the 1441 line, and the ordering table lists no perforated chassis cover for this size. All components are sold separately. The matching satin black bottom panel is 1431-12BK3 (1431-12 in the other finish); bottom plates are punched with 4 holes of 3/16 in diameter and the chassis includes 1/8 in holes to accept them.
