The 1438O is an 11.75 x 8.50 in Type 12 mild steel junction box in the Extra Deep (1438) range of the 1436/1438 Series, with 4.75 in of depth. It is intended for instrument enclosures, electrical junction boxes and terminal wiring enclosures where equipment needs a degree of protection from falling dirt, dust, oil and water.
The box measures 11.75 in H x 8.50 in W x 4.75 in D (298 x 216 x 121 mm) and is formed from 16 gauge steel with smooth, continuously welded seams and no knockouts, cutouts or holes. Welded mounting brackets bring the overall height to 12.75 in and carry Ø0.25 in mounting holes on 12.25 in vertical and 7.63 in horizontal centres. Overall depth with cover is 4.91 in.
The 12.12 x 8.87 in cover is a lift-off design supported on internal hinges, fastened with captive, plated steel screws into threaded, sealed wells and sealed by a permanently secured oil resistant gasket. The door opening measures 11.25 in high by 8.00 in wide. A bonding stud on the cover and grounding stud on the enclosure are provided.
The 1438O is rated UL 508A Type 12 and 13 and CSA Type 12 and 13, and complies with NEMA Type 12 and 13 and IEC 60529 IP54. The phosphatized cover and enclosure are finished in recoatable ANSI 61 gray powder coating. Shipping weight is 9.55 lbs (4.33 kg), in a box.
