The 1438S is an 11.75 x 10.75 in Type 12 mild steel junction box from the Extra Deep (1438) range of the 1436/1438 Series. At 4.75 in deep, it offers a roomy, near-square interior for instrument enclosures, electrical junction boxes and terminal wiring enclosures that need a degree of protection from falling dirt, dust, oil and water.
The enclosure measures 11.75 in H x 10.75 in W x 4.75 in D (298 x 273 x 121 mm), formed from 16 gauge steel with smooth, continuously welded seams and no knockouts, cutouts or holes. Welded brackets bring overall height to 12.75 in and provide Ø0.25 in mounting holes spaced 12.25 in vertically and 9.88 in horizontally. Overall depth including the cover is 4.91 in.
The 12.12 x 11.12 in lift-off cover is supported on internal hinges and secured by captive, plated steel screws that fasten into threaded, sealed wells, sealing on a permanently secured oil resistant gasket. The door opening is 11.25 in high by 10.25 in wide. A bonding stud on the cover and a grounding stud on the enclosure are provided.
The 1438S is rated UL 508A Type 12 and 13 and CSA Type 12 and 13, and complies with NEMA Type 12 and 13 and IEC 60529 IP54. Cover and enclosure are phosphatized and finished in ANSI 61 gray recoatable powder coating. Shipping weight is 11.35 lbs (5.15 kg), in a box.
