The 1438F is a 7.25 x 6.25 in Type 12 mild steel junction box in the Extra Deep (1438) range of the 1436/1438 Series. At 4.75 in deep, it gives more room behind the cover for instrument enclosures, electrical junction boxes and terminal wiring enclosures that need a degree of protection from falling dirt, dust, oil and water.
The enclosure is 7.25 in H x 6.25 in W x 4.75 in D (184 x 159 x 121 mm) and is formed from 16 gauge steel with smooth, continuously welded seams and no knockouts, cutouts or holes. Welded brackets provide for mounting, with an overall height of 8.25 in and Ø0.25 in holes on 7.75 in by 5.38 in centres. Overall depth with the cover is 4.91 in.
The 7.62 x 6.62 in lift-off cover is supported on internal hinges and fastened with captive, plated steel screws that thread into sealed wells. A permanently secured oil resistant gasket seals the cover. The door opening is 6.75 in high by 5.75 in wide. A bonding stud on the cover and a grounding stud on the enclosure are provided.
The 1438F is rated UL 508A Type 12 and 13 and CSA Type 12 and 13, and complies with NEMA Type 12 and 13 and IEC 60529 IP54. The phosphatized cover and enclosure are finished in ANSI 61 gray recoatable powder coating. Shipping weight is 5.6 lbs (2.54 kg), in a box.
