The 1438K is a 9.50 x 8.50 in Type 12 mild steel junction box in the Extra Deep (1438) range of the 1436/1438 Series. Its 4.75 in depth and wider body suit instrument enclosures, electrical junction boxes and terminal wiring enclosures needing a degree of protection from falling dirt, dust, oil and water.
The enclosure measures 9.50 in H x 8.50 in W x 4.75 in D (241 x 216 x 121 mm) and is formed from 16 gauge steel with smooth, continuously welded seams free of knockouts, cutouts or holes. Welded mounting brackets give an overall height of 10.50 in, with Ø0.25 in holes on 10.00 in by 7.63 in centres. Overall depth including the cover is 4.91 in.
The lift-off cover, 9.87 x 8.87 in, is supported on internal hinges and held by captive, plated steel screws that fasten into threaded, sealed wells. It seals on a permanently secured oil resistant gasket. The door opening is 9.00 in high by 8.00 in wide. A bonding stud on the cover and a grounding stud on the enclosure are provided.
The 1438K is rated UL 508A Type 12 and 13 and CSA Type 12 and 13, and complies with NEMA Type 12 and 13 and IEC 60529 IP54. Cover and enclosure are phosphatized and finished in ANSI 61 gray recoatable powder coating. Shipping weight is 7 lbs (3.18 kg), boxed.
