The 1438C is an 8.00 in tall, 4.00 in wide Type 12 mild steel junction box in the Extra Deep (1438) range of the 1436/1438 Series. Its 4.75 in depth gives room for deeper devices in instrument enclosures, electrical junction boxes and terminal wiring enclosures that need a degree of protection from falling dirt, dust, oil and water.
Enclosure dimensions are 8.00 in H x 4.00 in W x 4.75 in D (203 x 102 x 121 mm). It is formed from 16 gauge steel with smooth, continuously welded seams and no knockouts, cutouts or holes. The welded mounting brackets give a 9.00 in overall height and carry Ø0.25 in holes on 8.50 in by 3.13 in centres; overall depth with the cover is 4.91 in.
An 8.37 x 4.37 in lift-off cover is supported on internal hinges and held by captive, plated steel screws in threaded, sealed wells, sealing on a permanently secured oil resistant gasket. The door opening measures 7.50 in high by 3.50 in wide. A bonding stud on the cover and grounding stud on the enclosure are provided.
The 1438C is rated UL 508A Type 12 and 13 and CSA Type 12 and 13, and complies with NEMA Type 12 and 13 and IEC 60529 IP54. Its phosphatized cover and enclosure are finished in ANSI 61 gray recoatable powder coating. It ships in a box weighing 5 lbs (2.27 kg).
