The 1438A is the smallest enclosure in the Extra Deep (1438) range of the 1436/1438 Series: a 4.00 x 4.00 in Type 12 mild steel junction box that is 4.75 in deep. It suits instrument enclosures, electrical junction boxes and terminal wiring enclosures where devices need extra depth and a degree of protection from falling dirt, dust, oil and water.
The enclosure measures 4.00 in H x 4.00 in W x 4.75 in D (102 x 102 x 121 mm) and is formed from 16 gauge steel with smooth, continuously welded seams and no knockouts, cutouts or holes. Welded brackets give an overall height of 4.75 in and Ø0.25 in mounting holes on 4.50 in by 3.12 in centres. Overall depth including the cover is 4.91 in.
The 1438A is the only not-hinged size in the Extra Deep table. Its 4.37 x 4.37 in cover lifts off completely and is secured with captive, plated steel screws that fasten into threaded, sealed wells, sealing on a permanently secured oil resistant gasket. The door opening is 3.50 in wide by 2.63 in high. A bonding stud on the cover and grounding stud on the enclosure are provided.
It is rated UL 508A Type 12 and 13 and CSA Type 12 and 13, and complies with NEMA Type 12 and 13 and IEC 60529 IP54. Cover and enclosure are phosphatized and finished in ANSI 61 gray recoatable powder coating. Shipping weight is 3 lbs (1.36 kg), in a box.
