The 1438B is a 6.00 x 4.00 in Type 12 mild steel junction box from the Extra Deep (1438) range of the 1436/1438 Series, with 4.75 in of depth. It is designed for instrument enclosures, electrical junction boxes and terminal wiring enclosures that need a degree of protection from falling dirt, dust, oil and water.
The enclosure measures 6.00 in H x 4.00 in W x 4.75 in D (152 x 102 x 121 mm). It is formed from 16 gauge steel with smooth, continuously welded seams free of knockouts, cutouts or holes. Welded mounting brackets bring overall height to 7.00 in, with Ø0.25 in holes spaced 6.50 in vertically and 3.13 in horizontally. Overall depth including the cover is 4.91 in.
The 6.37 x 4.37 in lift-off cover is supported on internal hinges and secured by captive, plated steel screws that fasten into threaded, sealed wells over a permanently secured oil resistant gasket. The door opening is 5.50 in high by 3.50 in wide. A bonding stud is provided on the cover and a grounding stud on the enclosure.
The 1438B is rated UL 508A Type 12 and 13 and CSA Type 12 and 13, and complies with NEMA Type 12 and 13 and IEC 60529 IP54. Cover and enclosure are phosphatized and finished in recoatable ANSI 61 gray powder coating. Shipping weight is 4 lbs (1.81 kg), boxed.
