The 1431-6BK3 is the satin black steel bottom plate for the 4 in x 4 in size in Hammond's 1441 steel chassis range. It closes the underside of the 1441-6BK3 satin black chassis, and is listed against the 1441-6 grey chassis as well, giving builders of classic, vintage-style and tube equipment, hobbyists and OEM designers a finished base in a matching dark colour.
The plate is formed from 0.036" steel and given a satin black finish. According to the series specification, optional bottom plates are punched with 4 holes 3/16" in diameter, and the chassis now includes 1/8" holes so a bottom plate can be installed. Fixing hardware is not included: the drawing calls for 1421J6BK black cover screws or 1421J6 natural finish cover screws, each a package of 6 x 6-32 x 1/4" self-tapping screws.
Listed dimensions are 4 in x 4 in x 0.04 in (102 mm x 102 mm x 1 mm); the drawing shows the plate at 101.60 mm [4.00 in] square and 0.91 mm [.036 in] thick. The mating chassis is 20 gauge, 4.00 in (102 mm) wide, 4.00 in (102 mm) deep and 2.00 in (51 mm) high, giving an inner box of 99.77 mm [3.93 in] x 99.77 mm [3.93 in] x 48.97 mm [1.93 in] when assembled.
