The 1431-6 is a steel bottom plate for Hammond's 1441 series steel chassis, sized at 4 in x 4 in to close the underside of the 1441-6 grey chassis and its satin black counterpart, the 1441-6BK3. It is aimed at hobbyists and OEM engineers who use the 1441 chassis for classic, vintage-style or tube equipment and want a finished, enclosed base.
The plate is made of 0.036" steel and finished in ASA 61 smooth grey. The series specification notes that optional bottom plates are punched with 4 holes of 3/16" diameter, and that the chassis now includes 1/8" holes to allow installation of an optional bottom plate. The drawing specifies Hammond 1421J6 natural finish cover screws (package of 6, 6-32 x 1/4" self-tapping) or 1421J6BK black cover screws for fixing; hardware is not provided and is ordered separately.
Dimensions are 4 in x 4 in x 0.04 in (102 mm x 102 mm x 1 mm), with the drawing showing the plate at 101.60 mm [4.00 in] square. The mating 1441-6 chassis is a 20-gauge steel chassis measuring 4.00 in (102 mm) wide, 4.00 in (102 mm) deep and 2.00 in (51 mm) high, with an inner box of 99.77 mm [3.93 in] x 99.77 mm [3.93 in] x 48.97 mm [1.93 in].
