The RP1385 is a light gray, general purpose ABS enclosure with an opaque lid from the RP Series of water-tight plastic boxes. At a nominal 186 x 146 x 110 mm (7.32 x 5.75 x 4.33 in) it is one of the deeper boxes in the range, giving OEM engineers, panel builders and field technicians room for taller components, terminal blocks or stacked boards.
The lid uses a two piece "tongue & groove" design with a rubber string gasket that is supplied loose and installed in the field. The assembly is rated IP65 and the ABS material carries a UL94 HB flame rating. Four self captivating M3.5 stainless steel lid screws thread into corrosion resistant bushings, so the lid can be opened and closed repeatedly for service.
Inside, the drawing gives a usable space of 177.73 x 138.03 x 103.33 mm (7.00 x 5.43 x 4.07 in). PC board mounting posts accept M3 self-tapping screws and support a board up to 173 x 134 mm, and the series provides internal DIN rail mounting tabs where the size allows. The lid top has a 0.40 mm recessed inlay for a membrane keypad, label or silkscreen.
Each RP1385 ships in a bag with the box, lid, string gasket, four PCB screws and four lid screws. Optional inner panels (STC128 ABS, STA128 aluminum), replacement gasket RP128GASKET and mounting feet kits are listed for this size. The part is RoHS and REACH compliant. Hammond notes that some chemicals, including acetone, ketones, thread locking compounds and cutting fluids, can damage or weaken plastic.
