Hammond DTS3181A230N4SS 4,000 BTU/H 230V Stainless NEMA 4X Air Conditioner

The DTS3181A230N4SS is a 4,000 BTU/H side-mounting outdoor air conditioner for electrical and control enclosures that need closed-loop cooling in harsh locations. Built with a Type 4/4X exterior of 304 stainless steel, it is aimed at panel builders, OEM engineers and facilities teams protecting heat-generating electrical equipment where weather or contaminated ambient air rule out open ventilation.

Closed-loop operation recirculates clean enclosure air without mixing it with contaminated ambient air, and the layout maximises the distance between the warm inlet and cold outlet to reduce hot spots. The unit uses R134a refrigerant (400 g charge), an expansion valve that prevents evaporator freeze-up while minimising inrush current, high-capacity fans for continuous air circulation and a built-in condensate evaporator. The exterior case is stainless steel with a 304 stainless steel #4 brush finish.

This is the 230 V model, rated for both 50 and 60 Hz supplies with an operating range of 198-253 V. Power consumption is 795 W, running current 4.49 A and starting current 10 A, with field wiring landing on a terminal block. Rated cooling capacity is 4100 BTU/h (1200 Watts) at +95/+95F (+35/+35 C), with unrestricted internal circulation of 177 CFM and external circulation of 100 CFM, and a noise level of <70 dB(A). Unit weight is 92 lbs (42 kg).

Mounting is on the side of the enclosure. A gasket, mounting kit and template for the enclosure cutout and drilling are included, along with a condensate drain hose and clamp. The thermostat is adjustable from +77 to +113°F (+25 to +45°C), factory set at +95°F/+35°C, and is accessible from inside the enclosure. Self-diagnostics run on startup, faults are shown by an LED, and a door contact provision powers the unit down when the enclosure door is opened. The series is listed UL, cUL and CE and complies with IP56 and NEMA 3R, 4, 4X; the part is REACH and RoHS compliant.
