Hammond BDN4XN1 M20 Glass-Filled Nylon Breather Drain, NEMA 4X

The BDN4XN1 is a non-metallic pressure compensation plug, also described as an N4X breather drain, from the BDN Series. It is intended for engineers and electricians who need to relieve pressure build-up in sealed enclosures caused by temperature swings such as night/day operation, and to drain moisture from inside the enclosure.

The body is Durethan BKV 30 N1, a 30% glass filled nylon, with a nitrile O-ring and a brass fixing nut. It carries IP66 and CSA Enclosure Type NEMA 4X ingress ratings, CSA/A Ex approvals for Class I, Zone 1, Ex e II; Class I Division 2 Groups ABCD; and Class II EFG, Class III. Impact resistance is listed as 20 Nm (7 Nm GF Nylon) and the operating temperature range is -50°C to +85°C.

The plug installs in an M20 x 1.5 pipe thread hole with a minimum cutout of 20.2 mm (0.80 in) at a recommended torque of 10 Nm. The ordering table gives dimensions B 0.79 in (20 mm), L 0.67 in (17 mm) and A 1.10 in (28 mm). Mounted at the bottom of the enclosure, its design drains moisture effectively; two plugs per cabinet in opposite locations are recommended.

Each BDN4XN1 is packaged individually in a bag and ships at 0.03 lbs (0.01 kg). It is REACH and RoHS compliant. Note that the manufacturer states this part is temporarily unavailable with no new supply expected in the near term; the stainless BDN4XS16 is the other part in the series.
