Hammond 194E 30H 100mA Choke for Vox AC30 Amplifiers

The 194E is a 30 H power supply choke for VOX tube guitar amplifiers, rated for 100 ma. of D.C. current. The series table lists it for the VOX AC30 reissue, and the manufacturer short description reads "CHOKE FOR AC30 VINTAGE, VOX". Technicians use it as a drop in replacement choke when servicing these amplifiers.

The drawing specifies 30H ±15% measured at 50V, 60Hz with 100mA DC across the two black leads, a maximum operating voltage of 400VDC, and a DC resistance of 517.2 ohms ±15% at 20°C. It is hipot tested at 2000V, 60Hz for 1 second and manufactured using Class B (130°C) materials; the drawing indicates a gap. Both leads are black and are at least 12.5 in long out.

Like every 194 Series choke, it was designed for drop in replacement of the original unit and physically designed to look similar to the original factory part where possible. Material and design specifications were kept as close as possible to the original to preserve the stock tone, and the unit is vacuum impregnated with polyurethane varnish for quiet and long life operation. Inductance is measured at the rated D.C. current, so the published value reflects real operating conditions.
