  • Dual 117/234 VAC primary for 50/60 Hz operation
  • Low profile: 3.98 in (101 mm) outside diameter x 1.68 in (43 mm) high
  • Open centre; includes two rubber insulating pads, metal centering washer and 10-24 x 2.00 in hardware
  • Minimum 8 in flexible leads; Hi-Pot tested at 4,000 V RMS primary to secondary
  • CSA C22.2 #66, UL 506 recognized and CE IEC 950 certified series; RoHS and REACH compliant

The 182Q9 is a 120 VA low-voltage toroidal power transformer from the 182 Series, built for chassis mounting in equipment that runs from 117 VAC or 234 VAC mains at 50/60 Hz. Its dual secondary windings can be connected in parallel for 9V at 13.34A, or in series for 18V centre-tapped at 6.67A, making it a flexible choice for engineers designing linear power supplies and OEM equipment around a 9V or 18V C.T. rail.

The toroidal design keeps the unit low profile, lightweight and cool running thanks to its high efficiency. The dual primary is wired in parallel for 117 VAC or in series for 234 VAC, and the units are designed to have all windings engaged. Minimum 8 in long flexible leads simplify wiring, and each design is Hi-Pot tested at 4,000 V RMS between primary and secondary.

The transformer measures 3.98 in (101 mm) in outside diameter and 1.68 in (43 mm) high, and weighs 2.84 lb according to the series table (shipping weight 2.8 lbs (1.27 kg)). Mounting is by a single centre hole through an open (non-potted) toroid centre. The 182Q9 is supplied with two rubber insulating pads, one metal centering washer and all mounting hardware, including a 10-24 bolt 2.00 in long.

The 182 Series is CSA certified to C22.2 #66 (file 209651), UL recognized to UL 506 (file E207860) and CE certified to IEC 950; this part is also listed as RoHS and REACH compliant. Because toroidal transformers can draw a high magnetizing inrush current for up to about half a cycle at switch-on, Hammond advises a slow-blow fuse, time-delayed circuit breaker or soft-start circuitry on the supply line.

Note: the 182 Series will soon be discontinued as a stocked series and has been replaced with the 1182 Series; this part is available while quantities last.

  • Linear power supply builds needing 9V or 18V C.T.
  • Chassis-mounted OEM equipment powered from 117 VAC or 234 VAC, 50/60 Hz
  • Low-profile installations with about 1.68 in of height available
  • Equipment designs requiring CSA certified and UL recognized transformers

Frequently Asked Questions

What secondary voltages does the 182Q9 provide?▾

Its dual secondary gives 9V @ 13.34A with the windings in parallel, or 18V centre-tapped @ 6.67A with the windings in series (RMS values).

Can it run on both 117 V and 234 V mains?▾

Yes. The dual primary is connected in parallel for 117 VAC or in series for 234 VAC, for 50/60 Hz operation.

What mounting hardware is included?▾

It uses center single hole mounting and is supplied with two rubber insulating pads, one metal centering washer and all mounting hardware; the included bolt is 10-24 thread, 2.00 in (51 mm) long.

How big is the 182Q9?▾

It measures 3.98 in (101 mm) outside diameter by 1.68 in (43 mm) high and weighs 2.84 lbs per the series table; the listed shipping weight is 2.8 lbs (1.27 kg).

Why might my fuse blow when the transformer is switched on?▾

Toroidal transformers can draw high magnetizing current when first energized, limited only by the primary's low DC resistance, for rarely longer than half a cycle. Hammond recommends a slow-blow fuse, time delayed circuit breaker or soft start circuitry.

Is this part still current?▾

The 182 Series will soon be discontinued as a stocked series and has been replaced with the 1182 Series; it is available while quantities last.
