Hammond 170E 750VA Hard Wired Autotransformer, 115/230VAC

The 170E is a 750VA hard wired autotransformer for panel builders, electricians and OEM engineers who need to change line voltage between 115VAC and 230VAC. It works in either direction: step down from 230VAC to 115VAC, or step up from 115VAC to 230VAC, at 50 or 60 Hz, which makes it suited to flexible worldwide applications.

Because it uses a single winding, the 170E does not provide isolation. It is intended for use where the equipment is already isolated and only a voltage change is required. It also does not convert line frequency, so equipment that depends on 50 Hz or 60 Hz must still match the local supply.

Connection is by flexible leads with an 8" minimum length, so the unit is wired directly into the installation rather than plugged in. Overall dimensions are A 3.75 in (95 mm), B 5.50 in (140 mm), C 4.60 in (117 mm), D 3.00 in (76 mm) and E 4.30 in (109 mm). At 750VA the 170E shares its A, C and D dimensions with the 500VA 170D but its B dimension grows to 5.50 in (140 mm) and its E dimension to 4.30 in (109 mm), with a listed weight of 14 lbs.
