Hammond 1609A 10W 10K Ohm CT Push-Pull Tube Output Transformer

The 1609A is a 10 watt (RMS) hi-fi output transformer for push-pull tube amplifiers where a higher plate-to-plate load is wanted. It carries a 10,000 ohm centre-tapped primary rated at 100 mA DC per side, driving an easy-wire secondary tapped for 4, 8 or 16 ohm loudspeakers.

For push-pull (2 tube) operation the suggested tube types are 6AQ5, 6V6, 6BQ5, EL84 and SV83. Typical applications include triode, Ultra-Linear pentode, pentode and tetrode connected audio output, and the 40% screen taps allow Ultra-Linear wiring if desired. The manufacturer notes that how you operate the tubes changes the optimum plate-to-plate load, so a tube manual should be consulted before choosing.

Typical drawing data for this 10K part lists 246 ohms primary DCR, 13.5 H primary inductance and 85 kOhm primary impedance at 1 kHz, secondary DCR from 181 to 359 mOhm, 2000 Vrms dielectric strength and a -40 to 105 C temperature range. Rated response is 30 Hz to 30 kHz at full rated power within +/- 1 dB (ref. 1 kHz).

Mechanically the 1609A shares the compact enclosed (shielded) frame of the 10 W models: A 2.50 in, B 2.75 in, C 3.06 in, D 2.00 in and E 1.69 in, with 4 slot, above chassis Type "X" mounting and 2.5 lbs weight. Plastic coil forms support and insulate the windings, and the insulated flexible leads are 8" minimum. It is made in Canada and RoHS and REACH compliant.
