The 1608A is a 10 watt (RMS) push-pull audio output transformer for hi-fi tube amplifiers, built for designers and restorers running a pair of small output tubes. Its 8,000 ohm centre-tapped primary is paired with an easy-wire secondary tapped for 4, 8 or 16 ohm speaker loads, and the primary is rated for a maximum of 100 mA DC per side.
Suggested tube types for its push-pull (2 tube) operation are 6AQ5, 6V6, 6BQ5, EL84 and SV83. It is a new and improved version of the earlier 1608-1650 multiple secondary design, with re-designed secondaries for easy hook-up of secondary loads, and it includes 40% screen taps so the output stage can be wired for Ultra-Linear operation if desired. Typical applications are triode, Ultra-Linear pentode, pentode and tetrode connected push-pull audio output.
Rated frequency response is 30 Hz to 30 kHz at full rated power (+/- 1 dB max., referenced to 1 kHz) minimum. The drawing lists typical figures of 182 ohms primary DCR, 7.5 H primary inductance at 1 kHz and 2000 Vrms dielectric strength, with a -40 to 105 C temperature range.
The enclosed (shielded) case uses 4 slot, above chassis Type "X" mounting, with plastic coil forms for coil support and insulation and insulated flexible leads of 8" minimum. Series table dimensions are A 2.50 in, B 2.75 in, C 3.06 in, D 2.00 in and E 1.69 in, with 0.20 x 0.38 in mounting slots and a weight of 2.5 lbs. The 1608A is made in Canada and listed as RoHS and REACH compliant.
