Hammond 1596B103-10 10-Pack 40x35x20 mm Black ABS Potting Boxes

The 1596B103-10 is a pack of 10 black plastic potting boxes, each one a 40 x 35 mm box and the one size in the series molded with a thinner 0.8 mm (0.03 in) wall. Each box is a one piece molded cup with no lid, designed for potting box applications, so electronics builders, OEM production teams and repair technicians can encapsulate a compact module that is nearly square in compound and have a neat, consistent outer shell. Buying the 10-pack keeps identical boxes on hand for small production runs.

The box is molded from black general purpose ABS plastic with a flame rating of UL94-HB and a smooth black finish. It is temperature rated from -20º to +94º C (-4º to 201.2º F), which is worth checking against the cure temperature of your potting compound. The series specification calls out the 1596B103 as the exception to the standard 1.0 mm wall: it has a 0.8 mm (0.03 in) wall, shown as 0.80 mm [0.031 in] on the drawing.

The part page lists the size as 1.57 in x 1.37 in x 0.79 in (40 mm x 35 mm x 20 mm). In the series ordering table the box is 1.57 in (40 mm) long, 1.38 in (35 mm) wide and 0.79 in (20 mm) deep; the drawing shows 40.00 mm [1.575 in] x 35.00 mm, with a height of 20.10 mm on the drawing. The 10-pack ships in a bag at 0.15 lbs (0.07 kg), and the single box is available as 1596B103.

Some chemicals can damage or weaken ABS, so avoid acetone, ketones, ethers, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, thread locking compounds, cutting or tapping fluid and strong solvents, and confirm any grease or oil is plastic safe. If you need holes, cut-outs or printing, the drawing notes that enclosures can be factory modified, and solid models are available in STEP or IGES. The 1596B103-10 is REACH and RoHS compliant.
