Hammond 1594ASGY 56x56x40mm Gray Economy ABS Enclosure, IP54

The 1594ASGY is the economy light gray version of the Hammond 1594A heavy duty ABS enclosure. It keeps the rugged thick-wall body of the 1594 family, a design ideally suited for mounting printed circuit boards, while using general purpose ABS plastic for cost-sensitive projects. Nominal size is 2.2 in x 2.2 in x 1.57 in (56 mm x 56 mm x 40 mm).

Economy versions are molded in general purpose ABS plastic, shown on the drawing as non-flame retardant ABS, and this part carries a UL94 HB flame rating. The finish is a matte texture in light gray (RAL 7035). The series quotes an average wall thickness of 0.13 in (3.3 mm), and the drawing for the 1594A body gives 3.10 mm [.122 in].

Instead of brass inserts, economy versions use self-tapping screws driven into plastic posts to hold the lid. Replacement self-tapping screws are sold in packs of 100 as 1594TS100 (#4 x 1 in self-tapping). Inside, the drawing shows a narrowest inside dimension of 46.67 mm [1.838 in] and an inner box height of 34.30 mm [1.350 in].

The 1594ASGY is rated IP54 and can be upgraded to IP66 with gaskets (1594AGASKET) and screws with o-rings. It is RoHS and REACH compliant, has a shipping weight of 0.11 lbs (0.05 kg) and comes shrink wrapped. Hammond can factory modify the enclosure (milling, drilling, printing), and STEP or IGES solid models are available.

Note that some chemicals can damage or weaken ABS, including acetone, ketones, ethers, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, thread locking compounds, cutting or tapping fluid and strong solvents; use only plastic-safe cleaners.
