Hammond 1553AABK 75x50x17 mm Soft-Touch Hand-Held Enclosure, Black

The 1553AABK is the smallest soft-touch case in the 1553 series of hand-held ABS plastic enclosures: a black body with a grey soft plastic overmold, measuring 75 mm x 50 mm x 17 mm (2.95 in x 1.97 in x 0.67 in). It is aimed at designers of compact hand-held electronics who want a housing ergonomically designed for handheld comfort, with the soft overmold giving a comfortable grip.

The enclosure is molded in general purpose ABS plastic (UL94 HB flame rating) with the soft overmold on the sides. The top cover is recessed for a membrane display or keypad; per the drawing, the inlay recess is 62.61 mm [2.465 in] long, 37.69 mm [1.484 in] wide and 0.50 mm [0.020 in] deep. PC board standoffs are molded into the case, and the inner box height is 13.00 mm [0.512 in]. The part page lists an IP54 rating, and the series notes that versions without a battery door are designed to meet IP54.

The part page gives a maximum P.C. board size of 69.2 mm x 38.9 mm, while the series ordering table lists 2.72 in (69 mm) x 1.65 in (42 mm). The purchased assembly includes the top, bottom and four cover screws (black on this black version); the P.C. board is not supplied. Recommended cover screw torque is 2.5 lbf-in (30 cN-m).

The 1553AA size is not offered with a battery compartment, and the series lists it as an exception to the removable front panel included with other sizes. Replacement lid screws are SC1553A100BK (#4 x 1/2" oval head self-tapping, pack of 100). PC board mounting screws are not included: order 1593ATS50 (pack of 50) or 1593ATS100 (pack of 100), #4 x 1/4" (6.4 mm) plated. A 1599CLIP (black) or 1599CLIPGY (gray) belt or pocket clip is available separately. Solid models are available in STEP or IGES.
