Hammond 1444-12CWW 7x5x2 Inch Aluminum Chassis with Walnut Sides

The 1444-12CWW is the walnut-sided version of the 7 in x 5 in x 2 in (178 mm x 127 mm x 51 mm) 1444-12 aluminum chassis. It is aimed at builders of tube amplifiers, preamps and other audio equipment who want a classic look with wood ends on a metal chassis.

The chassis itself is spot welded, heavy duty 0.040 in aluminum (0.04 in / 1 mm) in a natural aluminum finish. The side panels are solid walnut, routed out to fit over the ends of the chassis, which is pre-punched for mounting. Each panel attaches with four machine screws and lockwashers into metal inserts to avoid wood damage; do not torque these screws past 4.43 lbf.in (50 cN.m).

Per the drawing, the chassis includes the wooden sides, adhesive rubber feet and the required hardware. With the walnut fitted, the assembly measures 195.58 mm [7.70 in] long and 139.70 mm [5.50 in] wide, with the sides 63.50 mm [2.50 in] high. Inner box dimensions are 175.77 mm [6.92 in] long, 124.97 mm [4.92 in] wide and 48.75 mm [1.92 in] high. Because of the inset in the walnut sides, the usable surface of the chassis front, back and top is reduced by roughly 7/8 in (22 mm).

Bottom plate 1434-12 and plated cover screws 1421J6 (package of 6, 6-32 x 1/4 in self-tapping) are sold separately; spare clear self-adhesive rubber feet are available as 1421T6CL (package of 24). The 1451 series steel covers are not compatible.

The 1444-12CWW is REACH and RoHS compliant and ships in shrink wrap at 0.65 lbs (0.29 kg).
