Hammond 1182S30 625 VA Toroidal Transformer, 60V CT or 30V Output

The 1182S30 is a 625 VA toroidal power transformer with dual 30 V secondaries of 10.42 A each. In series it provides 60V C.T. @ 10.42A; in parallel, 30V @ 20.84A. It gives designers a step up in current from the 500 VA 1182R30 for 30 V and 60 V center-tapped supplies on 117 VAC or 234 VAC mains.

The drawing calls for #18 TEW primary leads and #12 TEW secondary leads, 8"-9" long and stripped 0.5" minimum, with secondaries coded RED-BLU and GRY-YEL. Regulation is 4.10% (dimension reference J). This open-center toroid is supplied with two 0.093" x 4.75" OD rubber washers, a 16GA x 4.30" OD steel mounting washer and a 1/4-20 bolt 3.00" long with lock washer and hex nut. Shipping weight is 10.8 lbs (4.90 kg).

The toroid core gives the benefits the series is built around: low profile, light weight, cool running and high efficiency, and low stray magnetic flux leakage (low EMI). Materials are Class B (130 degree C), each unit is hi-pot tested at 4,000 VAC RMS primary to secondary, and the series holds UL recognition (UL 5085-1 / UL 5085-2, file #E207860) and CSA certification (C22.2 #66.1-6 / #66.2-6, file #209651). RoHS and REACH compliance are both listed for this part.

For installation, connect the two 117 V primaries in parallel for 117 VAC or in series for 234 VAC, 50/60 Hz. The series is designed to have all windings engaged, either series or parallel connected, or connected as an autotransformer, and a connection sheet is included with the transformer. Toroids can draw a high magnetizing current when first energized, so a slow-blow fuse, time-delayed circuit breaker or other soft-start circuit on the supply line is recommended.
