The 1182S12 is a 225 VA toroidal power transformer with two 12 V secondaries rated 9.38 A each. Wired in series it provides 24V C.T. @ 9.38A; wired in parallel, 12V @ 18.76A. It targets designers who need more 12 V current than the smaller 1182 models while keeping a compact toroid footprint.
Primary leads are #20 TEW and secondary leads #14 TEW, 8"-9" long and stripped 0.5" minimum, with secondaries coded RED-BLU and GRY-YEL. The series table lists 7.20% regulation and dimension reference G. The open-center unit comes with two 0.062" x 3.75" OD rubber washers, one 16GA x 3.56" OD steel mounting washer and a 1/4-20 bolt 2.50" long with lock washer and hex nut. The toroid core gives the benefits the series is built around: low profile, light weight, cool running and high efficiency, and low stray magnetic flux leakage (low EMI). For installation, connect the two 117 V primaries in parallel for 117 VAC or in series for 234 VAC, 50/60 Hz. The series is designed to have all windings engaged, either series or parallel connected, or connected as an autotransformer, and a connection sheet is included with the transformer. Toroids can draw a high magnetizing current when first energized, so a slow-blow fuse, time-delayed circuit breaker or other soft-start circuit on the supply line is recommended.
