Hammond PWDP13242 Ameritron AL-80A HD Special HV Power Transformer

The PWDP13242 is a modified power transformer for the Ameritron AL-80A HD, described in the ordering table as a special HV model for FWB & CAP (4000 VDC) with no 5 V or 13.8 V windings. It is part of the PWDAHL series of Peter W Dahl Transformers, magnetics for amateur radio products, and is aimed at AL-80A HD owners and builders.

The primary is 240 VAC, 60 Hz, single phase, and the ordering table lists one secondary, S1, at 2900 VAC and 600 mA ICAS. The part drawing (Rev. 0, released 09/22/25) gives test data at 240 V, 60 Hz: excitation current 821 mA max, high-voltage no-load secondary 2991 V ±2%, DC resistance of 0.375 on the primary and 69.65 on the HV winding (±20% at 20°C), and a 6000 V, 60 Hz, 1 second primary-to-secondary hipot.

Note that the drawing also shows a BLU 13.8 VAC 5 A ICAS winding and a GRN 5 VCT 15 A CCS winding, which the ordering-table description says this special model omits. Confirm the winding configuration with the manufacturer before ordering.

The core is an EI-175 x 4" 29G M6X lamination, Style 4 on the transformer style sheet. Drawing dimensions A through F are 4.375", 6.000", 5.250", 3.500", 5.125" and 6.250", with G at 0.281" x 0.563", and all leads are 12.0" long minimum. Approximate weight is 24 lbs, shipping weight 24 lbs (10.89 kg). The PWDP13242 is RoHS and REACH compliant.
