Hammond HJ683HLP 6x8x3.5 Inch Hinged Type 4/12 Steel Junction Box

The HJ683HLP is a 6 x 8 x 3.5 in (152 x 203 x 89 mm) Type 4 and Type 12 mild steel junction box from the HJ H Series, built with a continuous-hinge door held closed by clamps. At 8 in wide and 6 in high, it is one of the landscape-format sizes in the series, suiting horizontal terminal rows and wide component layouts. It is designed for use as an instrument enclosure, an electric, hydraulic or pneumatic control housing, an electrical junction box or a terminal wiring enclosure.

The body is formed from 16 or 14 gauge steel and the cover from 14 gauge steel, with smooth, continuously welded seams and no knockouts, cutouts or holes, so you place entries exactly where your layout needs them. The door closes on a seamless poured-in-place gasket and is secured with stainless steel clamps and screws; its stainless steel continuous hinge can be removed by pulling the stainless steel hinge pin. The enclosure and cover are phosphatized and finished in recoatable smooth ANSI 61 gray powder coating.

The drawing shows a 6.31 x 8.31 in door, a 5.30 x 7.30 in door opening and 5.08 x 7.08 in of clear space available on the door. Welded brackets with 0.31 in mounting holes, spaced 6.75 in vertically and 6.00 in horizontally, give an overall mounted height of 7.50 in. Internal threaded weld studs accept the optional 14R0705 mounting panel, which measures 6.75 in (171 mm) x 4.88 in (124 mm); alternative inner panel options are also available. A bonding stud is provided on the door and a grounding stud inside the enclosure.

The HJ683HLP is listed to UL 508A Type 3R, 4, 12 and 13 (UL file E65324) and CSA Type 3R, 4, 12 and 13 (certificate LR21001), and complies with NEMA Type 3R, 4, 12 and 13 and IEC 60529 IP66. The series is intended for locations where equipment may be hosed down or otherwise be very wet, and for outdoor applications needing full weather protection. It is REACH and RoHS compliant and ships boxed at 5 lbs (2.27 kg).
