Hammond 431611 125mm Heat Sink Extruded Aluminum Enclosure, Black

The 431611 is a black anodized extruded aluminum enclosure from the Sink Box series, a British designed enclosure originally sold under the West Hyde Enclosures Ltd. name. It is ideally suited for mounting small printed circuit boards or chassis horizontally, and the finned top acts as a heat sink. This part uses a larger 105 x 60 mm cross-section than the 90 x 51 mm sizes, with slots for 100 mm wide P.C. boards and a 125 mm length.

The body is formed from a single, hollow aluminum extrusion, which gives the unit high strength and simplifies assembly, with aluminum end panels attached to each end. Inside, numerous slots on both shorter sides accept a P.C. board or chassis (the drawing notes this size is for 100 mm wide PCBs), and three "T" slots, one in the top taking an M3 half-nut and two in the bottom taking M4 half-nuts, offer an alternative way to mount chassis or components that need to be cooled by conduction.

The nominal size is 4.92 in x 4.13 in x 2.36 in (125 mm x 105 mm x 60 mm). The drawing gives an extrusion width of 105.00 mm [4.134 in], height of 60.00 mm [2.362 in] and length of 125.00 mm [4.921 in]. The two bottom exterior "T" slots take M4 half-nuts and allow mounting of wall brackets, belt attachment or connection to another enclosure. The part carries an IP54 rating.

The purchased assembly includes the extrusion, 2 end plates, 2 molded black plastic bezels that protect the end panels, and 8 screws (#4 x 1/2 pan head), with a recommended cover screw torque of 2.5-3.5 lbf-in (30-40 cN-m). The drawing notes that enclosures can be factory modified (milling, drilling, printing) and that solid models are available in STEP or IGES. The 431611 is RoHS and REACH compliant, ships shrink wrapped at 0.84 lbs (0.38 kg), and the manufacturer notes the Sink Box line will soon be discontinued as a stocked series and is available while quantities last.
