The Hammond 298MG1000 is a 1000VA medical grade plug-in line isolation transformer for step up isolation, 120 VAC to 240 VAC, rated 50/60 Hz. It is intended for non-patient connected indoor applications where sensitive electronics need protection, such as high end audio and studio use, medical electronics, and high end test equipment or laboratories. It is not intended to supply power to life support appliances.

Each unit provides complete line isolation and noise filtering and uses a Faraday shield to keep leakage current under 100 microamps, below UL60601-1 requirements. The floating AC output reduces noise coupling. The 298MG1000 steps 120 VAC up to 240 VAC at 1000VA, with 8.67 A input current, 4.17 A output current and 95% minimum full load efficiency.

Construction is a vented 14 gauge steel housing in white powder paint, with carrying handles, venting louvers and an external grounding stud with wingnut. Input is a hospital grade 3-wire grounded NEMA 5-15P plug on a 14/3 SJTW/ 6ft. cord, and the output is 2 hospital grade Duplex 6-15R receptacles with North American pins. Protection comes from an on-off switch / circuit breaker combo plus a built in automatic thermal cut out.

The 298MG1000 is cULus listed to UL 60601-1 (1st Edition) and CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 601.1-M90 (R2005), and is RoHS and REACH compliant. Every unit is 100% tested and inspected before packing. Input voltage tolerance is +/- 10%, and the shipping weight is 37 lbs (16.78 kg).

Ideal For

  • Powering 240V audio or studio gear from a 120V outlet with isolation
  • Medical electronics in non-patient connected indoor use
  • High end test equipment / laboratory needing 240V from 120V
  • Low-leakage 120V to 240V step-up isolation

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the 298MG1000 be used with patient-connected medical equipment?▾

No. The MG Series is intended for non-patient connected indoor applications that protect sensitive electronics, and it is not intended to supply power to life support appliances.

What is the leakage current of the 298MG1000?▾

Leakage current is under 100 uA. A Faraday shield reduces leakage currents below UL60601-1 requirements.

What plug and outlets does the 298MG1000 have?▾

It has a hospital grade NEMA 5-15P input plug on a 14/3 SJTW/ 6ft. cord and 2 hospital grade Duplex 6-15R receptacles. The user guide states units must be connected to comparable hospital grade plugs and receptacles to maintain grounding.

What are the input and output ratings?▾

Input is 120 VAC at 8.67 A; output is 240 VAC at 4.17 A; 1000VA at 50/60 Hz with 95% (min) full load efficiency.

What happens if it overloads or overheats?▾

If the breaker trips, unplug all loads, cycle the on/off switch to reset it and re-evaluate the total load. If the unit overheats, the built in thermal cut out removes power to the receptacles; unplug it and let it cool before restoring power.

What operating conditions does it need?▾

Indoor, dry locations only, operating between -15 and 55°C (5 to 131°F) and no more than 95% RH non-condensing, placed upright on its rubber feet with its ventilation unobstructed.
