Hammond 284X 329VA 1200V C.T. Transformer, Three Filaments

The 284X is a 329 VA high voltage transformer with a 115/125 VAC primary and a 1200V centre-tapped plate secondary rated 230 mA. It carries three filament windings: 5V at 3A, 6.3V at 3A and a second 6.3V at 3A. It is intended for high-voltage tube power supplies running from a 60 Hz North American line, including sites where line voltage runs closer to 125V.

Mechanically, the 284X is an enclosed, 4 hole, chassis mount design in the vertical ("X") mounting style, with minimum 6" long leads. Ordering-table dimensions are A 3.75 in (95 mm), B 4.50 in (114 mm), C 4.56 in (116 mm), D 3.00 in (76 mm) and F 3.31 in (84 mm), and the mounting slots measure 0.20 x 0.38 in (5 x 10 mm). The shipping weight is 4.9 lbs (2.22 kg).

Hammond states that 200 Series units can be run full wave bridge or full wave C.T., use Class A insulation (105 degrees C), are Hi-Pot tested at 2,000V RMS and are CSA certified (209651). The part is listed as REACH compliant and RoHS compliant.

The primary is rated 115/125 VAC at 60 Hz. The series wiring notes describe using the White and Gray wires (taping the Black) for 115 VAC input, or the White and Black wires (taping the Gray) where roughly 125V line voltage produces too high a secondary voltage. Never connect power to both the Gray and Black wires; the manufacturer warns this will instantly destroy the transformer.
