Hammond 270X 41 VA Plate Transformer, 480V C.T. 46mA, 5V & 6.3V

The 270X is a 41 VA high voltage (plate) and filament transformer for a 115 VAC, 60 Hz primary. It combines a 480V center-tapped secondary rated at 46 mA with two filament windings, 5V @ 2A and 6.3V @ 1.5A, in one of the smallest cases in the series at 1.6 lbs shipping weight.

Electrically, the 270X is rated 41 VA with a 115 VAC, 60 Hz primary, a high voltage secondary rated 480V C.T. @ 46mA (RMS), and filament windings of 5V @ 2A (#1) and 6.3V @ 1.5A (#2). As with every 200 Series unit, it can be run full wave bridge or full wave C.T. Its sibling the 270AX shares the 480V C.T. rating but omits the 5V winding in favour of a 6.3V @ 2.5A filament and 58 mA on the high voltage side.

The case is an enclosed, 4 hole, chassis mount design in the vertical (X) mounting style, with minimum 6 in long leads. Listed dimensions are A 2.19 in (56 mm), B 2.50 in (64 mm), C 2.63 in (67 mm), D 1.75 in (44 mm), F 1.44 in (37 mm), with 0.19 in (5 mm) x 0.25 in (6 mm) mounting slots. Shipping weight is 1.6 lbs (0.73 kg).

For the primary, the 200 Series wiring notes describe two choices: use the white and gray wires and tape the black wire for 115 VAC input, or use the white and black wires and tape the gray wire where roughly 125V line voltage is producing too high a secondary voltage. Never connect power to both the gray and black wires at once. Insulation is Class A (105 degrees C), units are hi-pot tested at 2,000V RMS, the design is CSA certified (209651), and the part is RoHS and REACH compliant.
